UK Project Update: WJ Groundwater Works On 3 Major New Projects at Canary Wharf

WJ Groundwater has been working with Canary Wharf Estates on their biggest redevelopment project in decades. WJ’s relationship with the client goes back to the Canary Wharf development’s very first phase in the 1980s.

SILVER CLOUD PHOTOGRAPHY.CO.UK_WJ GROUNDWORKS_098WJ’s project leader, Paul Judge (Major Contracts Manager) is overseeing the ongoing programme of tasks at three different locations: Newfoundland Wharf, Wood Wharf and 1 & 10 Bank Street at which we’re completing a combination of pumping tests for piling, dewatering for basement foundations, and depressurisation for cofferdam stability. The Bank Street location has proved to be a positive challenge, where we’re installing a new cofferdam which is connected to an old one that has a number of structural / water issues. Our team has drilled wells on both on the land side and the cofferdam side to control water ingress. At Wood Wharf, which was formerly the site of old factories and offices, WJ is dewatering the upper and lower aquifer, as well as the cofferdams.

“Canary Wharf Estates is investing a lot of money in new building work, both commercial and residential,” said Paul. “The area will be further connected into the London train system by Crossrail from 2018.  The entire project is set to roll out across many phases for several years.”
